almotamar.net - SHABWA, March 19 (Bernama) -- Assistant of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Erika Feller affirmed that the commission set a plan to enable Yemen to resolve refugees problems, Yemen News Agency (SABA) reported.
Feller signaled, in a meeting with Shabwa governor, Ali al-Maqdashi, that the studied plan consists of ten points which would help Yemen contain and properly dealing with African and other refugees from the moment they reach Yemen until they return to their homeland, taking into consideration the humanitarian aspects.
She thanked the Yemeni government for hosting and giving shelter to those refugees, talking about the hardship and risks refugees encounter in their way to Yemen as well as the reasons which compelled them to do so.
For his part, Shabwa governor discussed with the UNHCR official the possible joint role the UNHCR and the local municipality can play to reduce the sufferings of the refugees in the governorate, briefing her the bad impacts on the governorate due to the humanitarian migration and the disadvantages resulting from the semi-daily exodus which negatively affect the economic, social, cultural and other sides.
"Some of these refugees engender some acts which violate the country security and morals," he was quoted as saying.
Al-Maqdashi called on the UNHCR to increase the refugees aid, set up a bigger reception camp, improve the various services the governorate offers for refugees and establishing an advanced medical center to check coming refugees are free of transmitted diseases.
Feller showed cooperation for refugees needs and requirements in the governorate of Shabwa, asserting that she would report this situations to the headquarters of the UNHCR in Geneva so that to take suitable actions regarding this humanitarian case.
