Almotamar.net - Yemen renewed its call for an effective international action for protection of sea navigation security in the Red Sea, considering the increase in acts of piracy increases security anxiety regarding development of this phenomenon.

Those remarks came in the address delivered by the Yemeni Deputy Foreign Minister, the chairman of the national committee for refugees Dr Ali Muthana Hassan at the meetings of the 59th session of the UNHCR programme started in Geneva Monday.

Dr Hassan said the increase in acts of piracy in the last months and the demand for paying financial ransoms increase security worry concerning the development of this phenomenon, especially if it was exploited by terrorist elements, a matter which requires effective international action more than any time before in order to protect security of sea navigation.

Yemen has earlier called on the states overlooking the Red Sea to intensify their efforts to encounter the increasing acts of piracy to the south of the Red Sea and Aden Gulf in the way that guarantees ensuring safety of international navigation.

Yemen Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi had said the countries on the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea must shoulder their responsibility and coordinate their efforts for fighting acts of piracy and not to depend on foreign countries in this regard.
