almotamar.net - The leaders of Sana’a Coalition have on Tuesday confirmed their full commitment to work for achieving security, peace and sustainable development the Horn of Africa region and in south of the Red Sea and solving disputes in peaceful ways.

In the closing statement issued by Sana’a Gathering 6th summit on Tuesday the leaders of the Gathering welcomed invitation of President Ali Abdullah Saleh to host the 7th summit in the Yemeni capital Sana’a.

The closing statement of Sana’a Gathering held in the Sudanese capital Khartoum emphasized the necessity of enhancing and developing the level of cooperation between the Gathering member states in all areas. The summit was attended by President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, the Prime Minister of Somalia Nur Hassan Hussein, the President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh who participated as observer.

Leaders of the Coalition called on the private sector to work for development and enhancement of aspects of trade activity among the member states and speeding up establishment of free trade zones. The statement welcomed signing the peace agreement of Djibouti between the transition government in Somalia and the coalition of re-liberation of Somalia and urged all the parties to intensify and double their efforts to carry out the agreement. The leaders also confirmed the necessity of forming a joint force from the region’s countries under supervision of the Arab League and the African Union to confront pirates offshore Somali coasts and the Gulf of Aden to stave off any foreign interventions that do not serve interests of the region along with preservation of sea riches of Somalia and rights of the Somali fishermen.

The leaders welcomed efforts of the international navy organisation concerning the establishment of the regional centre for exchange of information on sea piracy acts and armed robbery against ships for the region of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in the republic of Yemen and stressed the necessity of participation of the Coalition member states in Djibouti meeting during the period of 26-29 January 2009 under auspices of AMO.


The leaders also affirmed their full sympathy and solidarity with the Somali people under the humanitarian circumstances they are facing and expressed their appreciation of the Yemen republic efforts in particular and the neighbouring countries in general for providing shelter for hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees and alleviating from their suffering and the necessity of offering necessary support to them wherever they are.

The closing statement stressed the importance of coordination of the efforts of the United Nations and the African Union, the Arab League and the international donors for holding a conference on reconstruction of Somalia as soon as possible and adoption of a comprehensive programme for rebuilding institutions of the Somali state and organizing the return of Somali refugees to their home.


On the situations I Sudan and results of the national dialogue and reconciliation on all tracks the leaders of the Coalition expressed their appreciation of the efforts exerted for carrying out the agreement of comprehensive peace in east of Sudan and Darfur and welcomed the efforts for involving the rest of factions in the peaceful process in Darfur. The leaders also valued the positive developments at the level of relations between Sudan and Chad.

They also expressed their strong concern and rejection of the movements of prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and effects of those negative movements on the Arab and African efforts for the establishment of peace in Darfur and they confirmed that those movements at this delicate circumstance affect negatively the peace that has been established in south and east of Sudan and on the entire stability in the region and they appeal for the international community to work for stopping those movements.


The leaders also confirmed in their final statement their keenness on security and stability in the Horn of Africa and their looking forward to a lasting and peaceful solution of the dispute among each of Ethiopia and Eritrea and Djibouti and Eritrea via dialogue and diplomatic ways. The statement also condemned the latest Israeli aggression and the blockade imposed on Gaza Strip.

They called on the international community for taking necessary steps to stop fighting and to work for solving the Arab Israeli conflict. The statement also condemned all acts of violence, extremism and terror with all of its forms and called for enhancing capabilities of the member states and cooperation among them to combat these phenomena.
