Almotamar.net - Yemen Foreign Minister Dr Abu Bakr al-Qirbi said Saturday, “The Yemeni unity is a natural destiny and return of integration of the two parts of the one homeland after it was divided under certain circumstances. Yemen reunification on 22 May 1990 represents a new stage and phase in the history of Yemen and the most outstanding and luminous event in the contemporary history of the Arab nation.”
Al-Qirbi added that the secessionist calls of some voices dissenting from the national unanimity and sabotage events that occurred in some areas of southern provinces were carried out by groups violating the law and order and are supported by secessionist elements dreaming of the return to the period prior to 22 May. They take advantage of atmospheres of tolerance and democracy in the country.
In an interview to Saudi Al-Madina newspaper published on Saturday the Yemeni Foreign Minister indicated that the government has dealt with those elements with absolute keenness on keeping security and protection of citizens. It granted them the right to demonstration and expression of opinion within the frame of the constitution and the laws. Moreover, he maintained, the government affirmed its commitment to principles of human rights and freedoms guaranteed in the constitution and the laws of the country. Nonetheless, the government would resolutely confront all acts of violence and sabotage that are affecting public institutions and properties of citizens.
The minister said the more dangerous in the matter is the joining of some extremists and elements from al-Qaeda with the so-called the movement and that shows danger of those calls and negative impact on security and peace in the region and the future of Yemen. Al-Qirbi considered the Saudi Arabia stand and keenness on Yemen stability as not something new and reflects the natural and genuine situation of the relations between the two countries and displays the extent of the political leadership in the Kingdom awareness of the dangers of shaking security and stability in Yemen and the leaderships realization that the unity of Yemen was a positive addition to security and stability of Saudi Arabia. He confirmed that the Yemeni-Saudi relations are in steady development and springing from keenness of the two countries leaderships under President Ali Abdulla Saleh and King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz on pushing forward those relations. Al-Qirbi said his country is satisfied with the level of economic cooperation and political coordination and looking forward to more in the field of economic partnership and investment.
On al-Qaeda organisation and extent of its threat to foreign interests in Yemen the Minister said , “ No one demise the existence of al-Qaeda and extremist elements in Yemen, as it is existent in many countries in the region and out side it. The problem is what is the size of those organisations and extent of their capability of carrying out terrorist acts.” He pointed out Yemen suffering from magnitude of ability f those groups because they mostly focus on easy targets such ads tourists and the innocent. “
The minister affirmed that the Yemeni security apparatuses proved their capability of dealing with those groups and arrested some of their elements. Al-Qirbi also requested from those who advise Yemen and are skeptical about its capabilities to come up with a vision on how to help and support with potentials, training and logistic assistance for fighting terror.
