Almotamar.net - Yemen Foreign Minister Dr Abu Bakr al-Qirbi discussed in Washington with his US counterpart Hillary Clinton the two countries’ bilateral relations and ways of enhancing and developing them.
The talks also dealt with relations of cooperation of the two friendly countries in areas of development, economy and support of the democratic approach in Yemen as well as security and antiterrorism cooperation.
The US Secretary of State Clinton has reiterated the United States of America stand by Yemen’s unity and stability and in its facing the existing economic challenges as well as the threats by al-Qaeda organisation in addition to supporting the Yemeni government in confronting the elements of sabotage and outlaws, emphasizing the right of the Yemeni government in facing the armed rebellion against it.
The US Secretary of State confirmed support of the American administration for the success of London Conference in coming out with positive results in supporting the plan of the ten points adopted by President Ali Abdullah Saleh on economic and political reforms.
For his part Yemen’s Foreign Minister expressed Yemen’s confirmation of its pledges in its war on terror and extremism that pose direct threat to Yemen’s and the region’s security, adding that Yemen works with the United States and its partners in the region on coordinating the efforts for supporting Yemen to take appropriate steps for curbing this phenomenon and confirmed that the war on al-Qaeda must ne the responsibility of the Yemeni security forces.
On the other hand , Dr al-Qirbi held in Washington a meeting with Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Robert Muller and discussed with him relations and areas of cooperation between the two countries especially cooperation in combating terrorism . The two officials have also discussed many issues relating to relations of the two countries.
Mr Muller praised Yemen’s efforts for fighting terror and the positive results achieved in this respect, affirming the US keenness on enhancing its partnership with Yemen in different areas , among them the existing cooperation in the area of combating terror.
As part of his visit to Washington Dr al-Qirbi held five dialogue meetings with the editorial staff of Washington Post newspaper, Washington Institute for the Near East Studies, American Progress Centre, Carnegie Institute for Peace and New America Foundation. The dialogue sittings dealt with a number of issues and topics related to Yemen and the United States of America bilateral relations.
The Yemeni Minister presented a review on the package of economic, political and judicial reforms and a brief account on the Yemeni government priorities in the next period via the ten-point plan adopted by the Yemeni President for the economic and political reforms.
