Almotamar.net - The General People’s Congress (GPC)’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and External Relations Sultan al-Barakani has on Monday expressed his regret over the statement given by Dr Abdulwahab Mahmoud, Chairman of he Joint Meeting Parties (JMP)’s Council , in response to the press conference of the GPC and parties of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Al-Barakani said,” We would have hoped that Dr Mahmoud to have listened to the press conference to realize that the GPC was and is still believing in the dialogue because it is the approach of the GPC since the beginning of its founding and it will continue in that approach.”
Al-Barakani added that Dr Abdulkarim al-Eryany was very clear in what he submitted in the press conference, in that the GPC, the party of majority, has been continuing in seeking dialogue, urges for it and works for it with parties which were not founded on dialogue and did not believe in it. Dr al-Eryany had affirmed in the press conference that the door of dialogue would remain open forever.
Addressing Dr Abdulwahab and the public opinion, al-Barakani said if the GPC has not been believing I the dialogue and ken on it, the parliamentary elections would not have been postponed from April 2009 to April 2011, and if the GPC was not a pioneer in this regard, the GPC bloc would not have voted for amending article 65 of the constitution, despite the fact that the JMP bloc at the parliament cannot have the number required for a constitutional amendment.
Al-Barakani also confirmed that the GPC did not announce stopping the dialogue concerning February agreement al-Barakani addressed leaderships of the JMP by calling them to implement February agreement, adding that the GPC is going ahead in implementing it and its parliamentary bloc would put it into force. He asked the JMP leadership if they were serious and sincere in implementing February agreement they have to direct their parliamentary blocs to work with the GPC bloc for implementing the February agreement under the dome of the parliament.
