Almotamar.net - Some 15 al-Qaeda militants were killed in the attacks taken place in Seyoun town of Hadramout province on Friday night, military source said on Saturday.
Of the killed, Faisal al-Afifi and Fawaz al-Harbi, Saudi nationals, the source told the defense ministry website.
Al-Qaeda militants have launched a spate of attacks on army, security and public facilities in Seyoun, the second biggest town in the province.
Hadramout security committee described the attacks as a "barbaric reprisal reaction" of al-Qaeda to the army's crushing strikes on al-Qaeda strongholds in Abyan and Shabwa provinces.
A statement issued by the committee said that 12 soldiers were killed and 11 others wounded in the attacks.
The militants used car bombs and various kinds of weapons in the attacks carried out at 11 p.m. targeting the government complex, the First Military Region's headquarters, the National Security headquarters and the public security headquarters, the Central Bank of Yemen branch, the National Bank, the post office and the traffic police department, according to the statement.
The town has become under the control of the State and its official institutions, the commander of the First Military Region Mohammed al-Sawmali said.
The armed and security forces backed by military air jets are hunting the militants that have fled after the attacks, he added.
The Security Committee urged all military and security services to be on full military alert and raise their vigilance in case of any retaliatory terrorist attacks.
