almotamar.net - President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen chaired Wednesday evening the closed-door meeting of the Arab leaders attending the 19th Arab summit in Riyadh.

During the session the president has made many remarks regarding the issues and discussions that occurred in the meeting. President Saleh affirmed the necessity of sticking to the Arab initiative approved in Beirut summit in 2002 without entering any amendment in it or backing down from any of its articles.

President Saleh said Israel always affirms its obstinacy and refusal of peace and that it does not need any marketing of this initiative and it had refused it previously when it was announced in 2002 and it stomped Jenin and besieged the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

On the other hand president Saleh stressed the necessity of condemning all forms of terror and from any party or sect it comes as it constitutes a danger threatening the region�s states and security of all.

The president demanded the joining of Arab efforts in the field of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes especially in generating electric power in the manner unifying Arab efforts and energies in this area. He called for establishment of a united Arab establishment in this field undertaking the follow-up of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes for generating electric power in the Arab countries.

The president\s proposal was welcomed by the Arab leaders taking part in the summit and entrusted the Arab League general secretariat to study it in a way achieving its goals.

With regards to the Arab peace initiative the Arab leader approved entrusting the special ministerial committee on the initiative to continue its efforts and to set up a working team for conducting contacts with the UN secretary general, members of the UN Security Council, the quartet committee and parties concerned with the peace process for the purpose of resuming the peace process and mustering support for this initiative and beginning of serious negotiations in accordance with the agreed on references represented by relevant UN resolutions, the principle of land for peace and the principle of not allowing acquisition of others territories by force.

The Arab leaders entrusted the Arab: League Council at the ministerial level with following up evaluation of the situation regarding present peace efforts and the extent of their effectiveness and approval of upcoming steps of movement in the light of that evaluation.

The decisions were approved in the closed-door meeting of this evening, the first day of the 19th Arab summit.
