Issam al-Sufyani Almotamar.net - Between smiles drawn on faces of foreign tourists at Tahrir Square and bouquets of flowers taken to the Spanish ambassador to Yemen office all were standing shoulder to shoulder in confronting terror and as if that foreign female tourist with a smile on her face, while watching the demonstration condemning the terrorist event that targeted Spanish tourists in Mareb, ridicules terror and challenges it. At the same time the people who went to the Spanish embassy with bouquets of flowers offering their condolences was a message telling the Spaniards and the world "We love you" and confirming that life will be the triumphant however dangerous the terror is.
The two Yemeni demonstrations that took to the streets on Thursday reflected the extent of popular resentment in the wake of Mareb terrorist event. The first demonstration began with speech festival where all talked under one title, i.e. terror is an aggression on our life.
In the speech of the General Federation of Yemen Youth (GFYY) there was a demand to the security apparatuses to capture the perpetrators and send them court to get what they deserve for their outrageous acts.
The federation condemned the terrorist crime that targeted the Spanish tourists in Mareb and said it was an offense to Yemen, the economy and the Yemeni citizen. The GFYY speech emphasised rejection of extremism and exaggeration in all its forms as it does not have any relationship with the homeland and the citizens. The GFYY called on the youth not to be drawn to extremist thoughts and urged the society to shoulder its responsibility in confronting extremism and to head for moderateness and development of practical culture among the youth.
The General Federation of Trade Unions in Yemen affirmed in its speech condemnation of the Yemeni trade unionist movement and the workforce of the terrorist targeting of the Spanish tourists in Mareb and all forms of terror and called for standing against all that spreads horror or targets the safe people or loves bloodshed. The federation mentioned the people of Yemen do not accept destruction of their economy and achievements and to become a field for the unemployed and the terrorists. It has also urged the citizens to cooperate with security apparatuses to thwart any plot aimed for harming the homeland and its security.
The Yemeni federation of Hotels condemned in its speech the terrorist attack that aimed the tourists in Mareb and affirmed that the terrorist act will not preclude the federation from its endeavour for creating a safe and attractive tourist climate for tourism and investment in Yemen. Representative of the Yemeni federation of hotels said the crime was meant for offending Yemen and its reputation.
In its speech at the demonstration the Yemeni society of travel and tourism agencies condemned the terrorist act perpetrated by terrorist elements offended Yemen abroad. And it affirmed the necessity of defeating the terrorist gangs and fighting extremism as well as to preserve the reputation of Yemen and its image in the world.
On his part the minister of tourism Nabil al-Faqieh affirmed the determination of his ministry to make the terrorists miss their opportunity in damaging Yemen's relations with the Spanish people or any people in the world. While offering condolences to the Spanish ambassador the minister said what happened in Mareb happens in many countries in the world and Yemen which was among the first participants and supporters for fighting terror is paying the price of its stand that it will not abandon.
The people's protests that took place in the capital Sana'a against the terrorist act represented an expression of the Yemeni society's rejection of terror and their shock for killing their guests.
The religious clerics, politicians, civil society activists, physicians, citizens, children and women have taken to the streets drawing the sword of refusal and condemnation for killing foreign tourists and denouncing all forms of terror and violence and extremism.
The demonstrators carried banners condemning terror and denunciation of the unsightly crime against the Spanish guests of Yemen. The protest has drawn a more excellent image of the people who took to the streets in expression of their refusal of terror with carrying bouquets of flowers placed at the gate of the Spanish embassy that received the demonstrators with s surprise for the people's reaction to the event.
