Almotamar.net - Thousands of Yemenis gathered on Tuesday in Sana'a to take part in the celebrations organised by many mass organisations all gathered at the Democracy Square on the occasion of the democracy day in Yemen on 17 July, the anniversary of electing Ali Abdullah Saleh president of the republic.

The participants chanted slogans expressing loyalty to leader of the march of achievements and maker of unity and builder of Yemen's modern renascence Ali Abdullah Saleh.
In the celebration there were teams of folkloric dancing from the governorates of Sana'a, Huddeida. And Hadramout presenting folkloric dances amidst chants of participating masses praising the president and renewing their loyalty to the president.

Head of the General People's Congress branch of the capital Jamal al-Khawlani told almotamar.net the 17 July 1978 is a memorable day in the Yemeni history when the Yemeni modern state began. He added it is the day of freedom, democracy and civilized state and the establishment of the great leaps Yemen is witnessing at present, maybe the unity, democracy and development come at the forefront.

In his speech on behalf of the mass organisations Mohammed al-Janadi said the 17 of July 1978, the day of electing the president laid the first brick and actual steps towards heading for building the modern state. He reviewed the gigantic accomplishments realized in the country and pointed out the capability and wisdom of the leader in overcoming the challenges that faced the country through his clear pursuit based on dialogue and his patience.

Dr Mariam al-Jawfi delivered a speech for the Yemeni woman, reviewing the gains and rights the Yemeni woman acquired in the era of president Saleh and praised the president's courageous stands.
