Almotamar.net - Participants in the 2nd meeting of Press Law Working Group in Yemen on Monday recommended enabling journalists to have access to information and to publish it in all available instruments.

The participants also called for creating legislation guaranteeing right of individuals to get access to information, possession of audio-visual media and development of laws organising media work in compatibility with the age and its requirements.

The meeting, organised by Yemeni Media Women Forum in cooperation with Article 19 World Organisation, is the second of its kind. The first meeting was held on 21-22 last March. The participants of this meeting have specified three premises for discussion over the period 19-20 of this month. The first one focuses on reforming the press and publications law and paragraphs of the Yemeni criminal law that restrict the right to publication, the second for issuing legislation allowing and guaranteeing the right of access to information and the third on issuing legislation organising the establishment of private broadcasting stations.

The meeting was attended by participants from the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, members of parliament and representatives of civil society organisations. The British expert Daniel Simons presented an example of a law on the freedom of accessing information which is a law on which the participants are trained on how to create a similar law in Yemen.

Participants in the meeting also received practical training on a law on radio and television transmission and comparative examples of press law in Yemen, Jordan and Egypt in addition to a law on freedom of information and principles of legislation pertaining to freedom of access.
