Almotamar.net - Yemen's Prime Minister Dr Ali Mahmoud Mujawar has on Saturday made it clear that prices have witnessed recently unprecedented rises as a result of external and internal factors. During his review of the supply situations and prices before the second session of the General People's Congress (GPC) permanent committee in Sana'a today he affirmed that the supply situations have in general been characterized by stability.

The PM said reports of the ministry of industry and trade confirm abundance of goods and commodities in the markets especially the basic food stuffs like wheat, flour, rice and milk and cooking oil and that has helped much to alleviate impact of price rise of some goods.

PM Mujawar added that his government has taken a package of security and temporary measures to tackle the supply conditions and control prices of food stuffs and to curb their rise as well as providing foodstuffs and encourage competition and facing any monopoly practices.

The prime minister mentioned the measures and arrangements taken by the government in this regard such direct selling of wheat to citizens by the Economic Establishment, a cabinet decision issued in April this year on following up stability of supply and price situation of basic foodstuffs, a decision taken for the establishment of food council that began practicing its task which is focused mainly on assessing supply and price situations and estimation of the needs as well as enhancement of the strategic stock in each governorate. Regarding the economic situations the prime minister indicated to the establishment of central operation room at the ministry of industry and trade and other central operation rooms in the capital and other governorates with the aim of monitoring prices movement, circulation of goods and seizing violations as the employees carry out daily survey of the markets. Among other measures taken by the government for confronting rise of prices was the cabinet decision of doubling importation of basic foodstuffs.

Mr Mujawar said the cabinet directed to publish facts to the people through weekly publication of basic goods prices.

He affirmed the government would continue following up the decisions and measures it has taken in this regard in order to assure supply and price stability, firming competition and prevention of monopoly.
