almotamar.net - The local authorities in Al Mahra governorate have evacuated residential quarters and fishermen houses nearby the coasts from residents in precaution of a sea tropical storm expected to hit Yemen and Oman coasts today Wednesday.

Sources at the leadership of the governorate Al-Mahra said they prevented fishing and did not allow fishermen in coastal districts to go the sea for 24 hours. They said security units have warned fishermen with loudspeakers and to take the utmost degrees of caution and not to approach the coasts.

The precautionary measures come after the authorities have received warnings from a state rough sea as a resulting from a depression observed by satellites over the Arabian Sea. On its part the centre of meteorology and environment protection in Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday the presence of tropical depression observed Saturday over parallel 10 degrees north of the equator and longitude 66 degrees to the east. It indicated that the tropical depression moves towards the north-west and changed into a tropical storm of the name A.5 with a wind speed of 40 knots (75 km per hour).

A meeting held Tuesday by the administrative authority and the security committee of the governorate of Al-Mahra chaired by the governor Mohammed Abdullah al-Harazi discussed precautionary measures the governorate needs for facing a possible tropical storm resulting from a depression.
