almotamar.net - Public Health Undersecretary Dr Arwa Al-Rabie on Monday said the rates of population increase in Yemen, according to latest studies, reached at 3.1 and fertility rates at 6.2%, both of which represent dangerous rates in the world.

Dr al-Rabie has made it clear that the ministry managed to cover health services with means of family planning by 85% after issuing a decision of free health services concerning family planning and reproductive health.

In the workshop on announcement of results of field survey in knowledge, direction and practice of means of family planning and AIDS organised by the health ministry in cooperation with the international organisation Marie Stopes, Dr al-Rabie praised the organisation's and other organisations' efforts in raising the standard of health services and ways of family planning and reproductive health, she added that the ministry is working for generalization of health services and raising the level of awareness as well as targeting the remote areas and the countryside so that covering health services to include all yeomen areas.

Representative of Marie Stopes Organisation in Yemen said the results of a field survey on direction and practice of men and women in Yemen on family planning and AIDS revealed that 96% of unmarried women in the countryside are aware of family planning and 90% support the use of means for family planning and that would help bring up children and educate them and preserve their health.

The Director of the Project of Social Marketing of Means of Family Planning Dr Ashraf Badr reviewed the results revealed in the survey.
