almotamar.net - US Agency for International Development (USAID) concluded Monday, in cooperation with Yemeni Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the Regional Centre of Agriculture Reform and Countryside Development in the Near East, a three-day workshop for representatives of Agriculture Ministry and 40 participants from Yemen's governorates aimed at improving production and harvest of olive.

The workshop covered theoretical and practical aspects of on olive production and taking care of its plantations. The workshop also included a field visit to Kawkaban so that the participants see the best practices of producing and harvesting olive.

USAID organised the workshop in response to requests by Yemeni farmers to learn more on increasing olive crop. The participants mentioned that many farmers of olive were not able to deal correctly with production of olive that needs special care.
A pres release y the US embassy in Sana'a said experts of the USAID and the Regional Centre taught the participants on ways and techniques for reducing loss in their annual production.

In his opening of the workshop the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Dr Mansour al-Hawshabi praised support of the USAID for the agricultural sector in Yemen. He stressed that helping farmers in planting and production of olive would be a new source of income in Yemen's countryside.
