Almotamar.net - Director of the German Agency for Development (GTZ) Office in Sana'a confirmed Sunday the German government support for Yemen to continue its efforts in fighting corruption and building its institutional capacities as well as developing its legal systems for combating this phenomenon.
In a symposium organized by the Yemeni Supreme National Anti-Corruption Commission (SNACC) and attended by a number of representatives of donor countries the German official also said the donor countries have to stand by Yemen in the task of fighting corruption. He affirmed that Yemen cannot carry out this task without others and that rather requires cooperation of all development partners of Yemen and the donors as well as cooperation of Yemeni institutions among themselves, especially the civil society organisations and the media.
The GTZ office director pointed out that the meeting represents an important opportunity for enhancement of aspects of bilateral cooperation between Yemen and Germany in the area of fighting corruption. He emphasized that Yemen has taken significant steps in combating corruption and implementing the agenda of financial and administrative reforms which for the international community represent the will and political action on seriousness of the work in this direction. He asked the Yemeni government to continue those efforts.
Meanwhile the chairman of the Yemeni SNACC Ahmed al-Anisi stressed the importance of implementation of the UN agreement on combating corruption, clarifying that the process of combating corruption required following a comprehensive strategy that all institutions cooperate in implementing it, and among them are the civil society organisations in order to realize the aspired for goals.
