Almotamar Net - Yemen Minister of Electricity and energy Eng. Awadh al-Saqtary said Tuesday that a memorandum of understanding has been signed for the building of a 60-Megawatt capacity wind power station in al-Makha area to meet demand for electricity. The station will be built in the same area of the gas-powered station that is expected to operate the beginning of 2009. Almotamar.net - Yemen Minister of Electricity and energy Eng. The station will be built in the same area of the gas-powered station that is expected to operate the beginning of 2009.

In an interview to almotamar.net and Al-Mithaq newspaper the Minister said there are measures and solutions for covering deficit in electric power represented by preparation for the second phase of the gas power station in Marib and signing a memorandum of understanding with an Iceland company for benefiting from heat energy inside the earth as well as benefiting from the solar power in rural areas.

Concerning the urgent tackling Minister al-Saqtary said equipment of 60 megawatt capacity have been added to Haswa power station in Aden in June to raise its capacity to 110 megawatt. He said in the past two weeks the problem of the power station in Bajil and Al-Jarahi was solved by adding two transformers to reduces power outages in areas of Zabid, Mahweet and Bajil.

Electricity and energy minister also talked on important issues related to electric power and power stations as well as future projects in this regard.
