Almotamar.net - Al-Taiziaya Court in Taiz governorate has in its sitting on Wednesday decided to imprison defendant Fahd al-Qarani one year and a half and fine him half million Yemeni riyals in favour of Culture Office in taiz and the General People's Congress Party there. The court also decided confiscation of his CDs and giving a guarantee he would not return to such acts for which he was condemned.

The general prosecution had accused al-Qarani of instigating an armed disobedience among the people against the state authorities existing according to the constitution by publicly fomenting for resisting the state and denial of its existence and to carrying out a revolution against the regime.

That stand by al-Qarani, who is an artist and leading member of the opposition Yemeni Congregation for Reform (Islah) party, came at holding a festival in Rahida area in Taiz. The prosecution also accused him of offending the President of the Republic and fomenting sectarian and regional fanaticism and dissemination of division among the Yemeni society. he had called for solidarity with the sons of the southern part of Yemen against the General People's Congress party, antagonism against it as well as to resist it and to tell its members and leaderships to leave because the sons of the south are the real unionists and they had brought the unity from Aden to Sana'a and not vice-versa.
