Almotamar.net - The General Committee of the General People's Congress (GPC) held Thursday a meeting presided by President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Leader of the GPC.

The General Committee discussed in its meeting today several issues on its agenda related to the developments on the national arena, among them preparations for the 4th parliamentary elections in Yemen scheduled to be held in their fixed date in addition to a number of organisational issues including preparation for the second session of the GPC's 7th General Conference as well as consideration of the efforts pertaining to economic and development aspects.

The General Committee stressed the importance that the members, cadres and supporters of the GPC undertake exerting all efforts for the success of the electoral process and their effective participation in all of its stages, whether that concerning revision of voter record or that of candidacy and polling, taking into consideration that the elections are the essence of the democratic process and a democratic and constitutional right that should not be squandered.

The GPC General Committee lauded the keenness the President Saleh shows for overcoming any differences or variations between the political forces in Yemen and for the participation of all in national democratic action and taking part in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the manner enriching reality of democracy and pluralism and developing the democratic march for the achievement of higher national interest.

In reviewing the economic and developmental aspects the General Committee praised the government's efforts and the measures it takes in the economic and development aspects, in the field of the financial, economic and administrative reform and implementation of the President's election platform, pointing out what have been realised of accomplishments at the level of translating the points of the platform that reached about 80% of the essential points of the platform.

The Committee indicated that represents sincere embodiment of the GPC commitment to what it had promised the people and its keenness on translating the national aspirations and loyalty to that high confidence the people granted it always, whether in the parliamentary or presidential or local elections.

It has also confirmed that the GPC will remain loyal to the masses of the people and keen to all that achieves the interest of the homeland and the citizens and enhances the freedom of security, stability, development, democracy and progress. Also, it confirmed that democracy is a national option for construction and making advancement for the homeland and that democracy is commitment and responsibility the people practice by their free will via polling boxes for the peaceful transfer of power and the rule of the people by themselves away from any guardianship or domination.

The General Committee called on all in the homeland to work for the achievement of the national interest of the homeland and enhances the national cohesion, safeguards the national unity and pushes the efforts of development and construction forward.
