Almotamar.net - Yemen Foreign Minister Dr Abu Bakr al-Qirbi on Monday expressed again the concern of Yemen over increasing numbers of international warships coming to the region. He also confirmed during his meeting Monday with the British ambassador to Yemen Yemen's ability to provide necessary protection in its regional waters.

Al-Qirbi said efforts and coordination must be intensified with the neighbouring countries concerned for confronting the phenomenon of sea piracy. The Minister also discussed with the British ambassador ramifications of the financial crisis and its reflections on economies of the region and results of the summit of the 20 that aims at mitigating consequences of the crisis.

The meeting also discussed piracy in the regions of the Red sea and the Arabian Sea and the operation carried out last week by the British ship Cumberland against Somali pirates who were trying to kidnap a Danish ship offshore Aden.

On the upcoming parliamentary elections in Yemen al-Qirbi said the process of registration is going on steadily, confirming the elections will be held in their date on 27 April 2009 despite the unjustifiable obstinacy of the opposition.

In the other hand Yemen Foreign Minister also met today the non-resident ambassador of Singapore Hilmi Bin Talib who wrapped up a three-day visit to Yemen. During his stay the Singaporean ambassador visited the areas affected by the disaster of floods and saw the volume of damage to which the governorates of Hadramout and Mahara were exposed.
