almotamar.net - The European Commission has announced it already allocated 500 thousand euro as a humanitarian assistance for the Somali and Ethiopian refugees in Yemen. A statement by the Commission obtained by almotamar.net Sunday it said the sum would be allocated for the humanitarian assistance and for supporting humanitarian projects aimed at immediate improving of circumstances of the refugees in the sheltering camps especially after the growth n the waves of their migration to Yemen in the year 2008 as a result of the conflict going on in Somalia.
According to official statistics there are I Yemen more than 700 thousand Somali and Ethiopian refugees whereas unofficial estimates indicate to the presence of much over that number and that makes Yemen to shoulder additional burdens in addition to its economic problems.
The European Commission had in 2007 allocated an amount of 300 thousand euro for the support of the Somali refugees.
