Almotamar.net - President Ali Abdullah Saleh confirmed Wednesday that the upcoming parliamentary elections are to be held in their legal time without postponement pursuant to the constitution and the law, deeming them as democratic right of the people.


During his meeting today with Mr Les Campbell , Director of the American Democratic Institute for the Affairs of Africa and the Middle East , President Saleh expressed his gratitude for the positive stances and efforts the Institute has been carrying out for the enhancement of the democratic experiment in Yemen.

For his part Mr Campbell praised the preparations underway for holding the upcoming parliamentary elections in their scheduled date, affirming that the elections are a constitutional right to the people.

According to Yemeni news agency the meeting discussed cooperation with the Institute with regard to democratic area and the ongoing preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.


On the other hand President Saleh welcomed today the Turkish investments in Yemen in various fields, confirming they will receive all care and attention and will be offered all facilities leading to realization of the common interests of the two countries and peoples. Those remarks of the President came during his meeting on Wednesday with the visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and his accompanying delegation.

The President praised Turkey�s stands towards the Arab and Islamic issues, especially its stands concerning the Palestinian cause. Meanwhile the President praised the courageous stand of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan at Davos Forum in Switzerland.

President Saleh discussed with the visiting Turkish Foreign Minister bilateral relations and a number of issues and recent regional and international developments of common interest particularly the Palestinian issue.

The Turkish Minister, on his part, conveyed to President Saleh greetings of his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul and the Prime Minister Erdogan, mentioning that President Saleh�s visit to Turkey last year was positively reflected on developments of relations of the two countries. Babacan added that Yemen and Turkey were at present activating the agreements signed during the visit of President Saleh to Ankara.

President Saleh also received on Wednesday the envoy of the Indonesian President, who delivered to his Excellency an invitation from his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyno to take part in the World Islamic Economic Forum scheduled in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on 2-3 next March and deliver a speech there.

The meeting discussed aspects of Yemen and Indonesia cooperation in economic, trade and investment areas.
