Almotamar.net - The Regional Bureau of the World Health Organisation WHO in Cairo declared officially on Thursday the Yemeni Republic free from polio.
The declaration came in the wake of a study and revision by the WhO’s Regional Attestation Committee of the documents presented by the attestation committee in Yemen and acceptance of what was mentioned in it . Thus it has been officially declared that Yemen is free from polio.

This great success is attributed to efforts of the Yemeni Ministry of Public Health and Population that has organized a series of national campaigns for the termination of polio it has begun during the second part of the nineties . It has implemented each campaign by two annual rounds beginning from 1996 until 2007. Those campaigns resulted in extermination of the polio virus as any infection case in polio was not registered since the beginning of the year 2006 up until now . Thus , Yemen has completed conditions of the WHO that stipulate 5the elapse of three years on occurrence of the last case of polio.
