Almotamar.net - Yemen Justice Minis terry, in cooperation with the European Union (EU) team in Yemen and the UNICEF office in Yemen, on Saturday inaugurated a programme of enhancing the system of juvenile justice in the Republic of Yemen . The programme is to be implemented over three years.
The 4.2 million euro programme, according to a press release received by Almotamar.net, aims to guarantee the minimum extent of just treatment of children who find themselves in conflict with the law. The EU financed the project with 3.2 million euro while the UNICEF contributed to it with eh remaining amount,
At the inauguration ceremony the Yemeni Justice Minister Dr Ghazi Shaef al-Aghbari said,� Children have nothing to do with prisons and we work for improving Juvenile Care Centres and other arrangements alternate to depriving of freedom, � adding that the Yemeni government is committed to protection and care fore children who represent future of Yemen. Officials of the Justice Ministry would be responsible for coordination and implementation of the project with all the parties concerned with this segment of the society, the minister said.
The project is meant for providing a healthy environment for the children and establishment of courts friendly to children, increasing opportunities of the juveniles reintegration in the society and increasing the woman participation in systems of juveniles justice at all levels.
The ambassador of the EU has affirmed there is no criminal child because the children are weak and they need protection especially when they find themselves in courts as there must be a tackling of the radical causes that push Yemeni children to committing criminal acts, and the aim is to make it available for them to become productive members in their society again.
The UNICEF works for a long time in this field with the Ministry of Justice. Resident representative of the UNICEF has affirmed that friendly courts to children and the woman participation in systems of juveniles justice would contribute to improving the environment of protection the children need.
