almotamar.net - Deputy Head of the Political Office at the General People�s Congress (GPC) Mujib Abdul Fatah al-Anisi said Thursday the parliamentary elections in Yemen would be held in the fixed day in April 2011 as a constitutional right that must be observed.

In a statement to Al-Wahda newspaper al- Anisi considered postponement of the parliamentary elections in 2009 and the 2-year extension of the parliament term was a grave mistake made in response to request of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) and out of the GPC keenness on the public interest and participation of all political forces in the national arena.

Al-Anisi said the GPC would go ahead in reforming the electoral system and constitutional amendments in implementation of February 2009 agreement in addition to preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

He pointed out that any political party abstaining from participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections would not only lose it affiliated members but the electors as well.

Al-Anisi also called on parties of the JMP to give precedence to higher national interest and to resort to reason and dialog, far from political wrangles and outbidding. He said the prisoners the JMP demands their release are held for criminal reasons rather that because of political opinion , affirming they would be sent to judiciary and stand trial.

Nevertheless, al-Anisi said the door for dialog will remain open to all political forces.
