Almotamar.net, Saba - Talks session was held in the Interior Ministry on Monday to discuss the strategy of the Yemeni coastguard forces for next ten years.

In the session, Interior Minister Mutahar al-Masri affirmed the importance of the role played by the coastguard forces in combating maritime piracy, drug crimes and terrorism.

He commended the support provided by Britain, the U.S., Japan, Italy and France to train and rehabilitate the Yemeni coastguard forces.

Al-Masri pointed out that the role of the coastguard forces in Yemen does not serve Yemen only, but it serves the whole region, which requires the support of all the concerned countries.

For their parts, the British and Japanese ambassadors to Yemen confirmed the readiness of their countries as well as the European Union countries and the U.S. to offer the required support to the coastguard forces to perform their duty.

They praised the role made by the Yemeni coastguard forces over the past years in combating piracy and securing vessels and fighting against drugs crimes and other crimes in the sea.

The British ambassador said that he would present the proposed strategy for the development of the coastguard forces in the meeting scheduled to be held on September 24 in the U.S.
